Laulima Pahoa is hosting its inaugural All Things Cannabis Hemp Festival from noon-6 p.m. today at Uncle Robert’s Awa Bar in Kalapana.
The event will feature a day of free, family-friendly cannabis education. Speakers alternating with songwriters will keep the knowledge light and flowing, and the public will have opportunities to speak one-on-one with presenters at their booths. Vendors will offer local products and ono local-style food will be available.
Organizers of this venture are longtime Pahoa artist-activist Sara Steiner, joined by Billy LeVan and Dr. Phil Denney, early members of the American Alliance for Medical Cannabis.
Andrew Brewer, Puna District representative for the Lawful Hawaiian Government, will be in charge of the industrial hemp part of the festival. Mark Erickson of Na Leo Public Access Television will produce a comprehensive documentary of the event for TV and the internet.
Registered dispensary owners, cannabis-friendly doctors, industrial hemp activists, the state Department of Health, law enforcement and local legislators were invited along with medical cannabis patients willing to give public testimony about their experiences.
Laulima Pahoa is dedicated to cultivating infrastructure and resources for Pahoa and Puna. For more information, visit them on Facebook.
